Bolo do Caco Workshop, Ethnographic Museum of Madeira

A workshop about Bolo do Caco, a traditional delicacy of the region, and the stone it is baked on. Free entry, for the general public, with a maximum of 10 participants.

Long ago, this bread was baked on a flat stone block heated with ash or live embers. It let families bake bread without paying for the public wood-fired ovens.

Programme

• Part one: watch the making of a Bolo do Caco stone in soft stone (cantaria mole), follow the whole process and take part in building it, trying the traditional techniques.
• Part two: the baking of Bolo do Caco is presented with Maria José Neves, following the traditional recipe collected in Porto Santo, so you can learn the steps of preparing this regional dish.
