Free Mandolin Quintet Concerts in Madeira

Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the mandolin was at the heart of musical life in Madeira. Local musicians and composers built their own repertoire around it, a lasting record of an era. The Madeira Mandolin Circle was revived to carry on the legacy of its maestro, Carlos Maria Platão dos Santos, and brings together performers of different generations. In this series the quintet plays works from the Platão dos Santos archive and pieces from Volume 15 of the Anthology of Music in Madeira, devoted to mandolin music.
