Semana Gastronómica de Machico
Now in its 39th edition, the Machico Gastronomic Week is one of the best-established and most popular food festivals on Madeira Island, drawing thousands of visitors to the eastern coastal town every summer. Held at and around the Forte de Nossa Senhora do Amparo and Machico's seafront, the event brings together 28 stands — restaurants (with and without open-flame grilling), pastry and dessert stalls, wine producers, and 10 dedicated bar stands serving poncha, cocktails, and juices alongside the food.
Beyond the food, the nightly entertainment program is a major draw: concerts by regional and national artists, folklore performances, and DJ sets keep the seafront lively into the early hours.
The standout new feature for 2026 is the "10 Days, 10 Chefs" experience at the Forte de Nossa Senhora do Amparo: ten well-known chefs from Madeira and Porto Santo each design an exclusive tasting menu for one night across the ten days of the festival.
Sessions are limited to 30 guests, reservations opened 6 July at the Machico Town Hall reception, and children aged 6+ are welcome. Demand has been strong — as of early July, several nights (including chefs João Luz and Gonçalo Trindade) are already fully booked, so early reservation is recommended for anyone planning to attend this part of the program.
