Passion Fruit and Derivatives Exhibition (Mostra do Maracujá e Derivados)

If you've ever wondered just how many things you can make from a passion fruit, Ribeira Brava has the answer — and it's a long list. For three days every October, the town's seafront fills with stalls pouring poncha, gin, liqueurs and cocktails, and piling up jams, cakes, ice cream and sweets, all built around the fruit that's practically the town's mascot. It's not just about tasting, though that's the main event. Local growers and small producers set up side by side, so you'll end up chatting with the person who actually grew what's in your glass. There's a genuinely local feel to it — this is where the west coast's passion fruit farmers show off a year's work, and where the island's growers talk shop about what's working in the fields this season. Come evening, the food stalls hand things over to the stage: folk groups, live bands, comedy, and DJ sets carry the party well into the night, all with the sea as a backdrop. Come hungry, come curious, and don't skip the cocktails — that's where the maracujá really shows off.
