Sea and Fisherman Fair

In October, the fishing village of **Caniçal **celebrates its bond with the sea at the Sea and Fisherman Fair. Organized by the Casa do Povo do Caniçal, the three-day fair takes place at the Caniçal harbour, in the municipality of Machico. Fishing — especially tuna and skipjack fishing — along with local handicrafts and embroidery, has long shaped the community's economy and way of life. The fair keeps that heritage alive through an educational, cultural, recreational and gastronomic program.
