"The Seed of the Eyes" Exhibition — Jelka Baras

"The Seed of the Eyes" brings together 59 works exploring the border between photography and art objects. The project grows out of observing nature and memory, with images of plants, paths, landscapes, natural elements and the Madeiran territory.

The artist works mainly in cyanotype, an old photographic technique that produces Prussian-blue-toned images, creating striking, almost ethereal pictures with strong contrast between light and shadow. The exhibition explores ideas of memory, landscape, identity, nature, spirituality and a sensory relationship with the land — the title comes from the idea that seeing is like sowing new ways of looking at the world.

Curation: Márcia de Sousa. The exhibition takes place in Prazeres, a quiet rural area of Madeira that suits the exhibition's themes of nature and landscape well.
