World Walking Day 2026 — Funchal

Funchal joins the global celebration of movement with World Walking Day 2026, a free outdoor event open to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Participants can choose to walk or run along one of the city's most scenic stretches of coastline.

The starting point is the Almirante Reis Garden, from where the route follows the seafront promenade to the Harvey Foster Roundabout before returning to the starting point — entirely along the public walkway.

World Walking Day is an international initiative promoted by TAFISA (The Association For International Sport for All), encouraging walking and other forms of movement as part of an active, healthy lifestyle. In 2025, the event brought together more than 160,000 participants across over 80 countries.

Funchal's participation is part of the city's "Funchal Active City" initiative, aimed at making physical activity accessible to different generations and fitness levels through simple, inclusive forms of movement.

Route:

Almirante Reis Garden → seafront promenade → Harvey Foster Roundabout → return to Almirante Reis Garden (public walkway only)
