Art' Camacha
For one week every August, the village of Camacha becomes what locals call "the cultural capital of Madeira." ART'Camacha — the Camacha Art Festival — is organized by Casa do Povo da Camacha and unfolds across two stages at Largo da Achada: the Main Stage and the World Stage. The program spans concerts, theatre performances, dance shows, book presentations, workshops, and tertúlias (informal talks), alongside parallel exhibitions in the parish center. Regular features include a lace and Madeira Embroidery exhibition at the Casa do Povo entrance hall, a marketplace for traditional products such as wicker and wool crafts, and a homemade bread fair. The festival, now in its fourth decade, also incorporates a sporting element with the Grande Prémio ART'Camacha road race. Combining music, folk dance, craft, literature and food, ART'Camacha showcases the full range of Camacha's cultural heritage in a single week-long celebration, drawing artists, regional folk groups and visitors from across the island.
